Surface Area of solid or powdered substances can be measured using the NOVA or AUTOSORB range of gas adsorption instruments. Analysis of Microporous substances is available in both ranges of instruments, and the Autosorb Series has versions which feature ultra-low vacuum on both sample and degassing ports, with turbo-molecular pumps. Surface Area can also be measured on the Hydrosorb, and instrument which is dedicated to the use of water vapour as the adsorbate.

The AELLO Laboratory and On-line Microscope systems are able to provide instantaneous Particle Size and Shape Analysis of particles in wet or flowing systems. Unlike quiescent Image Analysers, the real advantage of these systems is that true three dimensional data is available. Most Image Analysis systems view a static sample, so it is only the projected area which is viewed. The ability to image in turbulent suspension removes this source of error. Of course, a static sample can be viewed as well.
